13 Sep How to Pack The Perfect Lunchbox!
School has just started and parents are e-mailing me in a panic!!
“What should I fix my kids for lunch today?”
Now, if you are like me, you get stumped each morning when you look in the fridge and have to come up with a yummy lunch on the fly. Yes, necessity breeds invention!
So, I put together this really simple tool in Excel called Weekly Lunch/Snack Planner to help me track and plot what I wanted to send my boys for lunch each week (based on what was in my fridge/pantry and what they like) and it made the morning lunch fixing/packing routine so much easier!
You won’t believe how less stressed each morning will be with this visual in front of you! Just pull out this sheet and get packing, almost on autopilot:-)
Below is an example of the Planning Tool with things I’ve sent my kids before and notes on how to use it just underneath!
HOW TO USE THIS TOOL:
1 – I usually print out a blank Planner and fill this in on Sunday afternoons with my kids – it helps if you ask them what they want. If they are old enough, let them fill it out for you! Once you’ve done this 3x’s, you’ll have 3 weeks worth of healthy lunch/snack plans right at your fingertips that you can do over and over again in rotation! I keep my Weekly Lunch/Snack Planners on a clipboard in the kitchen right next to where I fix the lunches!
2 – Notice that this Weekly Planner is for two children, but you can print out more Planners if you need them – (see Child’s Name in the orange area)
3 – I’ve listed Veggies first, as they are the most overlooked item in the lunch box and in our daily meals, so this chart helps you focus on what your kids really need each day nutritionally:-)
4 – Hint: Often times I use left-overs from dinner to make the boys their lunches the next day.
OK – That’s it!
